Now you can spin the lug nuts off with your fingers and stop complaining about the freaking brake dust that is going to coat your hands. take off the tires and look at what you've got.
Danielle's brakes look damn good and her rotors are pretty. Now, wonder why in the hell your brakes are making godawful noises and put the tire back on the bolts just like we did. Spin the nuts back on with your fingers and grab your wrench. A spiffy and semi-important piece of information: there is a pattern in which you should tighten your bolts to make sure they are on correctly and safely. Here's a diagram for four, five, and six bolt patterns. You're welcome.
I recommend a torque wrench for the final tightening, but again Danielle surprised me. Put 'em on how you got 'em off, step on the damn thing. If you weight 95 lbs. soaking wet, don't do this. Go buy at Harbor Freight (oh man I love that place) or borrow a torque wrench. Don't question me, just handle it. The biggest problem with this whole process is the mess. Our hands were covered in tire crap. .
The only way to remedy this is Lava soap. I swear it is sent from heaven (it's sent from the people that make WD-40 actually) and will make cleaning up super easy.
Scrub the hell out of yourself and rinse. Voila! Clean as can be! There are other brands like Go-Jo, Fast Orange, and Orange Goop (the most aptly named thing on the planet) that work fairly well. These all have pumice in them, just like Lava, and smell like orange... Usually. I'm going to choose Lava soap every time though. The proof is in the pictures.
See?! It even got the black nastiness off of Danielle's nails! She also somehow got dirty on her upper arm... Quite entertaining.
Still, came out clean and happy. These photos, and this whole ordeal, happened maybe a week or so ago. Now, the car is in the shop so she can find out exactly what the hell is going on that makes the brakes sound like nails on a chalkboard and/or like a chalkboard being eaten by a monster. (No joke. It's that bad.) Hopefully the car comes back tomorrow and I can (hopefully) remember to tell you what the issue was. Hope this was helpful to those of you that needed it... Or at least amusing.
