Went to my grandma's house to help get everything ready for the estate sale today. The woman had an obscene amount of pictures. Most were of the family, lots of them were from trips the grandparents took together, a few were of random race cars and stuff from races grandpa went to with my dad. No one seemed to really want to go through them, so I volunteered. I wanted to be able to get the pictures of my immediate family as well as pictures for my semi-estranged aunt and my half-brother's mom. Being that my brother was the first and only grandchild for at least seven years, there were tons of photos of him. I'm probably the only person, except my dad, who wanted the car photos. I found some really cool old black and whites from the early days of racing.
It was a tedious job that took hours and I'm not even finished yet. I'm also setting aside pictures for a few of our family friends. My ultimate goal is to collect the photos of grandma and grandpa together or apart to make a digital photo album for their four kids (my dad, uncle, and two aunts). I'll also make copies for my brother and the Felandos (long time family friends. My dad and his siblings grew up with their kids and I grew up with the grand kids. Definitely a Pedro family thing). Here are a few of my absolute favorite photos.
Mom and dad around the time they got married. I think... Grandpa and I... He looks so proud... *sniffle* Dad the Scout Master. | Dad, my brother (Jason), and I. My 5th grade graduation. Jay with day-glo hair and I at someone's birthday party. No idea who this is with my dad at someone's wedding, but dad looks like Carl Wilson... | My Uncle Anton and I after a figure skating competition. Dad and Uncle Jerry. Goobers... Dad on a pole in his lineman days. Such an awesome photo. I'd never seen him work but once when I was little. So freakin' cool! He's kind of a bad ass. It's hereditary... :D |
That's only a few of my favorites. I picked those out of a larger group of faves I had set aside from an even larger stack of photos. I'm actually glad I took on this endeavor. I've gotten to see us all grow up again. There's still A LOT to be done though. I have to scan loads of pictures, get in contact with one aunt to get the contact information for my other aunt and my grandparent's friends, have lunch with my uncle's ex-wife to give her pictures, have dinner with my brother to sift through all his pictures, and burn the photo album to disks. I already scanned the old race photos (obviously) and sent them to our racing friends. I'm sure they'll love them. I kinda feel like I'm the only one that would do all this to preserve our memories this way. I have such a crappy memory so it means a lot to me to have these photos. I don't even care if everyone else wants their pictures, they're getting them *glare*. I'm now going to go be a vegetable because my back is killing me from hunching over photo albums all day.
